The long history of the Elastomer Group studying the composition of rubber, the relationship between structure and properties, the vulcanization process and applications of high technological interest culminates in the publication of the Guide for the use of recycled rubber from tires of the rubber industry.

This guide arises from a strong collaboration between Grupo Elastómeros and SIGNUS, the end-of-life tire management system. SIGNUS Ecovalor is a non-profit organization that has been born since 2005 as a result of the initiative of the main tire manufacturers, with the aim of developing the mechanism by which all producers who wish to do so can comply with current legislation on tire management. End-of-life tires (NFU). The founding partners of SIGNUS Ecovalor are Bridgestone, Michelin, Pirelli, Continental and Goodyear and there are currently more than 300 member companies and entities.

The guide is divided into a total of 5 chapters addressing from the advanced characterization of rubber powder or granules, which is a complex material due to the number of ingredients with which the different parts of the tire are formulated and the processes that are involved. subjected to the tire both during its useful life and at the end of it. The design of recycled rubber compounds and the processing methods are also reviewed, leaving for the final part of the guide a chapter dedicated exclusively to durability and another with practical cases.

All the tests have been carried out in the laboratories of the Elastomer Group and all its technical and scientific equipment. Taking this guide as a starting point, multiple projects of high scientific and technological interest are being developed to get the most out of the dust from end-of-life tires, but these will come in the future.
